On Monday night, the San Francisco Bay Area was briefly shaken by an earthquake of magnitude 3.9. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the earthquake struck just after 7:45 p.m. and was centred close to Dublin. The earthquake was downgraded from its initial preliminary magnitude of 4.0.
The measured depth of the earthquake was 11.7 kilometres, or roughly 7 miles. Shaking was felt as far south as Santa Cruz and as far north as the border between Solano and Yolo counties, according to the USGS’s epicentre map.
No damage or injuries were reported at this time. On a scale of I to X, the USGS has assigned the earthquake a preliminary intensity rating of IV, meaning there is only minor shaking and no damage.
